Gauntlet Winner

The super series Australian masters in an invitation only event, you have to qualify by winning one of the qualifiers (or coming second) or by running the gauntlet, the last chance qualifier on the Saturday before the Final on Sunday. Andrew Galea also known as Guns (he painted my Throne of Everblight) won the gauntlet and came fourth in the finals. I like Guns, he's a great guy and so is his brother but he plays a very different style than I do.

This is a theme force. Pretty much everyone who runs it runs the exact same list. I run this list exactly, without having seen it. It's a really restrictive theme force, it really doesn't let you take anything outside of this list. That said the theme force is pure awesome. You get to place two wall temples (one for every two runeshaper units) down so that you always have a wall to hide behind, the runeshapers are quite tanky under the krielstone and a massive pain with their great ranged attacks and force lock. Meanwhile all your heavies are ARM 22 sitting behind conveniently placed walls or the one Janissa has made, you have purification, banishing ward and can add +4 to the strength of any of your dire trolls (if you take the Mauler and you kind of need him) or +2 SPD and pathfinder (with the axer you also kind of need). This list has very few bad match ups, it's really difficult to kill stuff and everything is capable of ripping your face off. It even has a strong, accurate ranged element thanks to the runeshapers which is really rare in trolls.

[00] Hoarluk Doomshaper, Rage of Dhunia (0 / 6 WB)

[11]  >> Rök
[10]  >> Earthborn Dire Troll
[06]  >> Troll Axer
[02] Troll Whelps
[03] Krielstone Bearer & Stone Scribes (3 grunts)

[01] Swamp Gobber Bellows Crew

[08] (R) Trollkin Fennblades (9 grunts)
[02] (R)  >> Trollkin Fennblade Officer & Drummer

Doomshaper2 is my favourite troll warlock (although Madrak2 is hotly contesting the title). He has wild aggression which doesn't make the mountain king good but makes it less bad. I would not run this list. I'd never run Doomshaper2 with Doomshaper1 though, they use too many of the same models.

My other favourite troll caster. The core of this list looks familiar. Fennblades for blood fury and the feat and possibly 3 blood fury attacks in a single turn one of which is a thresher. Cycle Blood Fury onto the burrowers and they will destroy anything left over and champions don't need blood fury but if you want you can use the runeshaper to put it on them (or start with it on them and cycle to fennblades before you feat) and then they are double weaponmasters which is a bit silly. 5 dice + 11 on the charge and then 4 dice + 11 for their second attack. I assume they act as a second wave cleaning up anything that survived Madrak's feat. Pyre is there for its animus (because why not put out more damage) and the impaler gets two shots with his spear and can give Madrak far strike for his axe which is very good (especially when he throws it twice and picks up 2 fury). Two fell callers lets you fell call the borrowers (necessity) and the fennblades (for their multiple attacks and reach weaponmaster thresher). The sons of Bragg are good because they are pretty self reliant but still kill whatever they hit. I don't have champs or Sons of Bragg in my Madrak2 list but you certainly can include them, even in this list I'd be tempted to sub them out for Skaldi and a champ hero. There are no heavies in this list (not including reinforcements which are not usually there). That is not unusual, my current Madrak2 list has no heavies. (If you change the sons of Bragg and the Champs for Kriel Warriors, a Chronicler and a thrullg you have my list). He doesn't need heavies, when everything in his army is a weaponmaster you can take down a colossal or a bunch of heavy jacks without needing them. You just need enough fury to feed Madrak. The ranged attacks from the two lights are useful in killing the few models your opponent is going to put in front of his army to try and make you take free strikes or not table him.
